MAGNESIUM-MICA

ANTI-CAKING & IMPROVED FLOWABILITY:

Magnesium-Mica is especially well suited for this purpose and is currently being used by ingredient manufacturers. Magnesium-Mica is absorbent, yet holds its structure, which allows the mass to flow more freely. It is very low in calcium and will not affect the total calcium content of any ingredient.
DILUENT OR CARRIER FOR VITAMIN AND MINERAL PREMIXES:

Magnesium-Mica is currently being used as a carrier for micro premixes and is ideally suited for that purpose. It assures dry mixes and free flowing products; It blends well with other carriers and increases density of the carrier mixture as well as the total premix.
BINDING AND PELLETING:

A major use for Magnesium-Mica is for its pelleting and binding characteristics. Its low cost allows it to be included at higher levels than normally used for binding agents. This results in quality pellets physically with a more competitive end price.
FREE CHOICE MINERAL MIXES:

The choice of particle size, nutrient content, low cost and palatability are strong reasons for considering Magnesium-Mica as the diluent or carrier for free choice minerals. There are no regulatory restrictions for Magnesium-Mica in minerals containing drugs and the density as well as particle size match other mineral components quite well.

REGULATORY:

State: For label purposes, the name Magnesium-Mica was approved by the Mineral Investigations Committee of A.A.F.C.O. in 1987.

Federal:        Magnesium-Mica is listed as GRAS and is without restrictions for feed and animal use.

Toxicity: There is no known toxicity effect with any level of use or consumption. OSHA Form 20s are available upon request.
PRODUCT APPLICATION:

The principal use of Magnesium-Mica by the feed industry has been as a low cost ingredient with a variety of specific benefits. It is an excellent dry carrier with most of the physical characteristics of free-choice pasture minerals. It is a nutritional carrier with low calcium levels for diluting drug premixes and basemixes.

The smaller particle sizes are being used as a binder in blocks, cubes, and pelleted feeds, and as a flow agent in feed and feed ingredients. It has significant levels of mineral nutrients Mg, Fe, and K.

PALATABILITY:

Research data indicate increased consumption with Magnesium-Mica. Feeding trials have shown that most animals will consume significant levels of the product even when fed free choice.
NUTRITION INFORMATION:

Magnesium-Mica has been researched extensively to determine the bioavailability of its magnesium content. The data supports availability to be equal to other typical sources of these elements. A continuing research program is in progress, and results will be distributed as they are completed.
RECOMMENDED USAGE LEVELS:

Inclusion rates vary greatly, depending on the desired results. The following levels represent the broadest rates now in use: Beef & Dairy Supplements 2.5 - 5% Complete Dairy Pellets 2.5 - 5% Range Cubes 2.5 - 10% Block - All Veg. 5.0 - 10% Blocks - Urea 5.0-20% Mineral Mix 2.5 - 50+%
